Adjust your suit and save your ribs!

Airbags are a well-known solution used in cars, and many people owe their lives to them. Airbag solutions dedicated to motorcyclists are also gaining more and more interest. They started gaining strong recognition after the 2018 season, when MotoGP riders were required to use suits equipped with airbags. The following options are available on the market:

• airbags suitable for touring trips.
• suits with built-in airbags designed for track riding.
• universal cartridge vests that you can wear over your jacket.
• universal cartridge vests that you can wear under your jacket.

From our perspective, we want to focus on the last two. A vest is undoubtedly a great solution that increases your safety, but you must pay attention to a very important issue. The suit you use may be your favorite and fit like a second skin—yet it may not be suitable for an internal airbag vest. At the moment of deployment, the suit needs about 4 cm of additional space on each side—if there isn’t enough room, your ribs will definitely suffer. We know many such situations from experience, and we know they can be easily avoided.
